Catar files about Queensland: deluge and chaos after trace of centuries!

A devastating storm has hit the east coast of Australia and caused a rain of recognition in the Hervey Bay region. In just one week, more than 900 liters of rain per square meter fell in some areas of the state of Queensland, which means the strongest precipitation since 1955. With wind speeds of over 100 km/h, high waves went to the coast, which significantly damaged popular beaches on the Gold Coast. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned of a "very serious weather event" and asked the citizens to get to safety, while the state weather service warned of life -threatening floods, which particularly affect the southeast of Queensland. In this context, it was also a significant problem that over 450,000 households and shops in Queensland and the neighboring New South Wales were without electricity.

The storm, originally classified as a cyclone "Alfred", was downgraded on Saturday evening after a weaker tropical deep pressure area that hit land northeast of Brisbane. Meteorologist Christine Johnston explained that the slow movement of the water -bearing clouds extends the flooding of the areas. Despite comprehensive precautions such as the evacuation of residents and the distribution of sandbags, there were first reports on fatalities, including a driver who was recorded by the floods. Rescue workers, volunteers and soldiers were in constant use and helped to free people from their cars and to eliminate fallen trees and electricity pylons.

The affected regions in Queensland

The areas affected by the storms in Queensland are diverse and range from the Gold Coast to the vastness of the state, which is known for its different regions. Brisbane, the largest city in the southeast of Queensland, serves as an important administrative and economic center of the state. The WHITSUNDAY ISLAND and Fraser Island, which are considered popular travel destinations, also include the touristy -important regions. These areas in which agriculture is carried out such as sugar cane cultivation and cattle breeding are particularly susceptible to extreme weather conditions, which were now visible by "Alfred".
