Fellbach defends himself against green tunnels: area consumption causes a dispute!

The planned North Ost Ring in Stuttgart and Fellbach has been controversial since the 1970s. The city of Fellbach defends itself against the project, which is intended to improve the traffic between the Rems-Murr district and the Ludwigsburg district. Entrepreneur Dr. Rüdiger Stihl made new efforts in September 2024 to drive the plans for the North-East Ring.

On January 28, 2025, the city of Fellbach will again discuss the plans for the North-East Ring, whereby the focus is on a tunnel variant. Stihl speaks for a "green tunnel", which is intended to serve as a powerful road connection between the B 14 and the B 27. Fellbach's mayor Gabriele Zull, however, refers to this tunnel vision as "eyewiping" and criticizes the associated area consumption and the stress by construction sites.

extensive exams and concerns

A review of the project in 2020 showed that the North-East Ring would have "large space consumption without demonstrable traffic benefits". Instead, the examiners recommended the expansion of local transport and intelligent traffic routing, since the ring closure could not cause a sustainable improvement in traffic flow without a new Filder driveway. The estimated construction costs amount to a sum in the nine -digit range, which is difficult to manage due to increased construction costs and empty municipal health insurers. In addition, it also emphasizes that a tunnel variant might cause even higher costs than an above -ground solution.

The discussion about the North Ost Ring is part of the 2030 Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan and provides for a route of around 11.5 kilometers. Although originally intended as a large -scale bypass in the north of Stuttgart, the project has not yet been implemented. The planned route is said to offer a capacity for over 70,000 vehicles every day. However, critics fear significant effects on the environment, agriculture and quality of life in the region. The municipal council discussed the planning in 2020 and 2021 and rejected the project because it would endanger open spaces and landscape.

The idea of a "green tunnel" was in 2020 by Dr. Stihl presented, but also found no positive response in the fact check. Accordingly, this variant would also bring more traffic and destroy valuable areas in the region. An advertising campaign for the "green tunnel" has been running since the summer of 2024, but the claim that this project can lead to more "green" is considered misleading by many. The Schmidener Feld, which is currently considered "green", has high -quality soils, the removal of which could have long -term negative effects on quality and living space protected species.
