Burgenland's Wild Corn: Colorful variety for animals in your own garden!
In order to promote biodiversity in the domestic gardens, the deputy governor Astrid Eisenkopf started the initiative "Show us your 'wild corner'" last year. Garden owners are encouraged to leave part of their garden untouched in order to offer small animals a valuable habitat. "Regional goods are the most climate -friendly because it does not have thousands of transport kilometers on the back," said Eisenkopf, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with Burgenland gardening who were supported during the promotion period. This initiative ran from October 1 to November 30, 2024, in which the participants could send photos of their "wild corners". On Tuesday, January 14, 2024, the award ceremony for the winners of the campaign took place, each received a shopping voucher worth 100 euros.
The winners and their stories
of the nine winners were present at the award ceremony: Kornelia Neugebauer from Sigleß, Christina Weidinger, who received the award for her partner Bernd Tobler from Breitenbrunn, as well as Theresa Friedrichthe from Podersdorf. Eisenkopf was pleased with the large number of submissions that showed how diverse a "wild corner" can be designed. Such corners not only offer retreats for animals, but also contribute to sustainable biodiversity.
Astrid Eisenkopf, in the Burgenland state government since 2015 as a state councilor and currently responsible for the areas of women, the environment, energy, nature conservation and agriculture, this campaign has launched an important measure to preserve nature. As an experienced political woman, who is also a member of the SPÖ Federal President of the Bundes, she uses her position to raise awareness of environmentally friendly measures. Their priority is to support the domestic flora and fauna and to bring them close to how simple and significant it is to contribute to biodiversity, both in your own garden and by buying local products.
