Viennese symphonists send Danube waltz to space: a galactic event!
Cebreros, Spanien - On May 31, 2025 at 8:30 p.m., an interlocking concert by the Vienna Symphoniker will take place in the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), which is to combine the world of music with the infinite universe. Under the direction of chief conductor Petr Popelka, the orchestra will perform the famous Danube waltz of Johann Strauss son. This unique event has the goal of sending the waltz into space after it was not taken into account in 1977 in the original mission of Voyager 1.
The highlight of the concert takes place at 9:30 p.m. when the Danube Walzer is transferred to the Deep Space Antenna 2 of the European Space Agency (ESA) in Cebreros, Spain. From there, the signal is sent to the universe at the speed of light, 299,792 km/s. 23 hours later it will overtake the NASA space probe Voyager 1, which has been exploring space since 1977. The Voyager 1, which is considered the most distant object of human -hand object, has accumulated data about our solar system and bears the Golden Record, which presents the sound and visual stories of our earth. Now the Danube Walzer is being sent again in this grandiose mission as part of an artistic homage to the cosmos to bridge the gap between humanity and universe, as is already emphasized in nasa report
Cultural connection into space
With the name "Waltz into Space", Wient tourism calls for combining one of the 13,743 notes of the Danube Waltz in order to symbolically participate in this unique journey. Particular attention is paid to the finish line to send the waltz with the names thousands of supporters into space and to hand over a certificate of their grading patronage to all participants. In addition, the concert is transferred not only in the MAK, but also in the Hermann beach bar on a large screen, where around 600 places will be available.
The mission is under the sign of Johann Strauss's 200th birthday and is staged by the Vienna Culture, which comes up with over 65 productions in the city's various districts on the occasion of this special anniversary. The performance of this extraordinary musical moment can also be followed globally on the Internet, so that people can become part of this visionary adventure worldwide.
