Vienna starts innovative project for lively culture of memory 2025!
Wien, Österreich - The city of Vienna is a strong sign of a lively culture of remembrance: With the project "History (s) Vienna", nine scientifically well -founded projects with a total volume of 800,000 euros are funded. The selected projects, which were assessed by a top -class jury as part of a competition, are intended to advance the dealing with the history of Vienna in creative and innovative form. In view of the fact that the loss of contemporary witnesses threatens the immediate stories of history, the city sees the critical reflection of past events as a responsibility that must be preserved. The projects start between April and May 2025 and deal with topics such as democracy, National Socialism and memory work.
creative approaches to memory
Among other things, among the funded projects is “construction site anti -Semitism”, which deals with anti -Semitism in the migration society. Another fascinating project is "Vienna. Affairs Hall 1945", which illuminates the psychological and physical effects of National Socialism on those affected. In addition, an interactive monument in Ottakring creates "archive of listening", which combines numerous individual life stories. These projects not only take up historical stories, but also deal with the question of how they can be transferred to the present to raise awareness of their own history, as described.
"The culture of remembrance is a lively process," emphasizes Veronica Kaup-Hasler, Vienna's City Councilor for Culture and Science. The funded projects are intended to address a general public and enable an examination of the story that are of great relevance in today's world. The challenges such as revisionist narratives become particularly clear in these projects. The aim is to promote a differentiated culture of commemoration and memory through innovative and participatory formats and thus to raise awareness of the valuable preservation of democracy and peace, as well as to deal responsibly with the past.
