Nicholas celebration in the Münster: Children experience magical miracles!
Rottweil, Deutschland - On Nikolaustag, the municipality of Heilig-Kreuz invited the children to the Münster for an atmospheric prayer. This took place around the magnificent Gothic Nikolaus altar, which dates from around 1497 and shows a youthful -looking, beardless Bishop Nikolaus in the middle. The outside of the altar wings are decorated with scenes from his life, which report miracles and legends. Pastor Timo Weber opened the celebration and sparked the first candle on the Advent wreath with a child. The children of the Maximilian-Kolbe School, led by Eva Arnold, then performed the moving spectacle of the grain miracle, in which Bishop Nikolaus had a decisive influence during a famine and convinced the crew of a ship to help the starving. This touching moment showed the charity of St. Nicholas and was part of a tradition that is deeply anchored in culture, as nrwz.de reported.
visit the real Nikolaus
The highlight of the prayer was the visit of a real Nicholas: Nico Schmid, the new vicar, appeared disguised at his name day as an episcopal Santa Claus. With his sensitive words and homemade verses, he delighted the children and rewarded them with delicious chocolate-Nicholes. Such festive encounters contribute to keeping the legend of Nikolaus, who lived between 270 and 365 AD and is known for his miracles. The prayer was reminiscent of his actions, which are anchored in both legends and history and shows how important these stories are to be passed on to the younger ones. This is also emphasized in the pedagogical materials on the Advent and Nikolaus celebrations, such as KinderPastoral.de describes.
