The laughing and shooting society, a cabaret that once achieved cult status with Dieter Hildebrandt, has opened its doors again. The stage was ceremoniously inaugurated with a touch of nostalgia and a pinch of humor. "The laughing and shooting is legendary and that should stay that way- please please," sings Astrid Hofmann. Managing Director Ulrich Spandau emphasizes: "This cultural heritage of the Federal Republic of Germany, that has to continue!" Despite the assumption that political cabaret is only something for older generations, he calls up to bring the values on stage in this turbulent time.

a restart after the crisis

The former Mayor of Munich Christian Ude, who is considered the "main rescuer" of the house, speaks of a restart after a "long dry spell". Thanks to the support association, the stage could not only be reopened, but the name rights were also secured. André Hartmann, the artistic director, opened the stage on a very special evening, a few minutes after 7:56 p.m.- a tribute to the opening year 1956. The laughing and shooting company has stood for sharp-tongued political cabaret for over 50 years and was inseparable to Hildebrandt, who died in 2013. After financial difficulties and bankruptcy in February 2023, the restart is a sign of hope.

Hartmann relies on three priorities: politically, socially critical and at a high level. "This is Hildebrandt's legacy," he explains. During the opening evening, the Ensemble criticized, among other things, capitalism and climate crisis signorance, but without dealing with the US elections or current developments in the federal government. The audience, including Hildebrandt's widow Renate and numerous celebrities, applauded friendly. "Legend lives and swabing trembles," sang Hofmann, even if the prophecy has not yet been fully fulfilled that evening. But the first programs in the “shop” this month could still cause surprises.
