Vienna of the security emergency: FPÖ warns of alarming grievances!
A highly explosive topic concerns Vienna: A savings package of the city government could endanger security in the metropolis, as the Viennese FPÖ criticizes violently. FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp warns that the drastic reduction in overtime at the Viennese police, which are to be shortened by up to 30 percent, triggers the security emergency and significantly restricts the income of the police officers. "This is a mockery of our police officers who ensure security under the most difficult conditions," says Nepp, worried in a current statement. He criticizes that millions of integration measures are provided for non-Austrians at the same time, while the police are no longer there. According to Nepp, this policy is a provocation and contributes to the increase in crime, which is shaped by stabbing and gang wars, especially among migrants.
At the 63rd meeting of the Vienna municipal council, NPP called for the establishment of a security city council to counter the "excessive crime". This session, which was called up at the request of the FPÖ club, illuminated the dark side of the security situation in Vienna, especially after the shocking terrorist attack in Villach, in which a young Syrian fatally injured a 14-year-old. Nepp criticized the political reaction as inadequate and instead called for effective measures against crime, such as more police presence and a personnel offensive for the Viennese police. In his explanations, he also referred to the increasing youth crime and an overloaded police system that urgently needed support in order to be up to the growing challenges.
A loud exchange of blows on the causes and solutions for increasing crime shaped the debate. While Nepp and the FPÖ pointed to the supposedly failed integration and security policy, other factions such as Neos and the green deeper structural changes and a more comprehensive discussion about the causes of extremism and violence among young people demanded. The political pressure on the city government will continue to grow in order to finally take tangible measures against the scandalous situation in Vienna. As press.wien.gv.at , the elections in Vienna are no longer far and the pressure on the government could significantly influence the dynamics of the future political agenda.
