Customs draws successful balance: Millions of millions on smuggling goods ensured

In the summer quarter of this year, the control unit of the Schweinfurt customs office has achieved impressive results in the fight against the smuggling. From July to September, the officials were able to pull numerous illegal goods out of circulation, including impressive amounts of prohibited cigarettes, drugs and even weapons. These controls not only led to ensure more than 59,000 smuggling cigarettes, but also to discover hallucinogenic, amphetamines and illegal medicines.

A total of 45 criminal proceedings were initiated, which underlines the seriousness of the Situation. The increase in drug deliveries via postal traffic is particularly worrying. An example represents a delivery that contained almost 120 grams of amphetamines that were discovered in a package from Poland on the way to a 36-year-old receiver in Esslingen.

focus on mailing and traffic controls

Customs have increasingly targeted postal traffic in recent months. Not only programs from non-EU countries, but also inner-European packages were checked. In a further case, 15,400 cigarettes were discovered in a package that also came from Poland. This shows that the smuggling of tobacco products is increasingly being handled over this channel.

In addition to the brazen mailings, there were numerous attacks during the traffic controls on the BAB 3 motorway. Often, unexplained tobacco products and high -proof spirits were hidden in a very creative way. A vehicle from Bulgaria, for example, not only distributed cigarettes in the passenger compartment, but also hid a considerable amount in a spare tire. Only after the tire was cut did the entire smuggling come to light: a total of 3,400 cigarettes.

The forces of customs work closely together to ensure that such violations are pursued as soon as possible and punished under criminal law. The central criminal and fine office of North Bavaria of the Schweinfurt main customs office is responsible for further processing and also takes over the tax criminal proceedings.

The control unit of the Schweinfurt main customs office plays a central role in the customs law monitoring of traffic routes in Lower Franconia and parts of Upper Franconia. Their tasks not only include the review of pharmaceuticals and narcotics, but also to ensure that forbidden goods are not accessed to the German market. The customs officials are well trained to discover both large and small amounts of illegal goods, and act very professionally and efficiently.

These measures are of great social interest because they show how seriously the smuggling in Germany is combated. With a combination of targeted control in the postal and transport sector, the situation for smugglers remains undifferentiated: Anyone who breaks laws must expect the consequences. Further information on the work of customs and accepted travel freights can be found on the official page www.zoll.de .

The results of the past few months impressively show that the commitment and persistence of the customs authorities pay off. The continuous efforts to combat the smuggling will not let up and remain a decisive contribution to the protection of society and the legal system.
