As part of a large -scale, nationwide campaign, the main customs office in Munich caused a breath of fresh air last week when enforcing the minimum wage. A team of 76 customs officers specializes in checking compliance with the legal provisions. These checks are part of one of the most important cross -border test actions in the European Union, in which 21 Member States work together, coordinated by the European Labor Authority (ELA).

The focus of the controls was gastronomy businesses, hairdressers, beverage retailers and arcades in the Munich district. In this precisely planned campaign, 146 people were interviewed in 66 companies, which led to 103 other facts that are now being examined more intensively. On site it was already hailing seven administrative offenses and criminal proceedings - a clear sign of the seriousness of the exams.

The information collected on site is compared with the wages and financial documents of the respective companies. Customs work closely with other authorities and pension insurance in order to obtain a comprehensive picture and effectively punish violations.

The aim of this engagement is to reduce the spread of undeclared work and illegal employment. The minimum wage, which has been continuously raised since its introduction in 2015, has been 12.41 euros gross per hour since January 1, 2024. Every employee is entitled to this wage, and any agreements that deviate from it are invalid and are punished.

These examination initiatives are not only sporadic events, but part of an ongoing program to clarify and combat illegal employment practices. This year, the financial control of undeclared work (FKS) will continue to work in a focus and focus on increased personnel expenses on checking suspicion -independent companies.
