Freiburg/Villingen-Schwenningen: After 22 years of committed teaching at the Baden-Württemberg University of Police (Hfpolbw), Professor Dr. Susanne Scheller retired on October 1, 2024. Her long career at the university is characterized by important contributions to the training and further education of future police officers and a special focus on material criminal law.
Since their first year of study, especially in the last 23 years, many students have used their learning cards for exams that were very helpful during their studies. Despite their retreat, these resources are further made available on the learning platform, as today's considerations with Mr. President Zeiser.
academic and professional career
dr. Scheller, who studied law at the universities in Freiburg and Geneva and completed a study stay in the USA, received his doctorate at the Freiburg Max Planck Institute with a work on the cooperation of European police authorities. This experience shaped her decision to devote himself to police work and finally led her to a professorship for criminal law at the Villingen-Schwenningen University of Police in 2002.
During her term from 2007 to 2015 as an equal opportunities officer, she actively campaigned for the compatibility of family and work. One of her outstanding initiatives was the foundation of the “Campus Minimus” daycare center on the grounds of the university in 2010. This facility was once a unique at a police University of Police and became a model for other institutions. The city of Villingen-Schwenningen has recently invested in the expansion of this daycare center, which shows how important its concept is to this day.
Another outstanding feature of her university activity was the project, which transformed the university into a “family -friendly university”. Dr. Scheller developed many elements of this initiative, which not only included a family -friendly study group, but also the opportunity to live on campus with children and operate a daycare center. For these engagements, she received great encouragement from students of which gender.
Farewell and outlook
As part of a small ceremony, in which President Matthias Zeiser was also present, Dr. Scheller gratitude for the years at the university and the respect she has for the police profession and her students. "The quality of the high studies, which is based on the requirements of law enforcement, is crucial," she emphasized.
An unforgettable experience was her practical semester in Great Britain in 2013, after which she was able to convey many students to the country for internship and research stays. For her future, the mother of two plans to devote themselves more intensively to family matters, bike tours and their great hobby, dancing.
President Zeiser recognized Professor Dr. Scheller's sustainable influence at the University of Police in Villingen-Schwenningen and wished her all the best for her new stages of life. Your positive charisma is expected to leave a lasting impression beyond retirement in the university community.
