Car fire in Mannheim underground car park: fire brigade in continuous use!

In Mannheim, an incident occurred on Friday evening, which caused a temporary blocking of the underground car park on Friedrichsplatz. Around 10:50 p.m., the integrated control center received an emergency call about a vehicle fire in the underground car park. When the first emergency services arrived, a considerable smoke from the garage was already visible.

The Mannheim professional fire brigade reacted immediately and moved out to the site with a fire truck. Thanks to their quick action, the firefighters managed to quickly locate the burning car and to start the extinguishing work. During the fire fighting, the access to the underground car park at the water tower had to be blocked in order to facilitate access to the emergency services and to ensure the safety of the residents.

Detailed missions by the fire brigade

The extinguishing work went into the night until at 00:30. The fire brigade kept the situation under control and ensured that no further dangers went from the fire. After completing the extinguishing work, ventilation measures were carried out to derive the smoke from the garage. Finally, the underground car park could be released without any significant damage to people or surrounding buildings.

The cause of the vehicle fire was attributed to a technical defect on the car. The affected vehicle is a Ford, the property damage of which has not yet been precisely quantified.

The incident reminded the residents of the importance of a quick reaction of rescue workers in emergencies. A fire in a closed room such as an underground car park can quickly lead to dangerous conditions, especially through smoke development. The quick location and combating of the fire from the fire brigade probably prevented worse.
