Wrong police on the phone: senior citizen is brought to savings!

An alarming event occurred on Wednesday, October 9, in Wassenberg, as a senior citizen was the victim of a sophisticated trick fraud. Around 3:30 p.m. she received a call that initially looked completely harmless. A woman at the other end of the line introduced herself as a police officer and informed her in an urgent way that her name and address would be on a list of fraudsters. These fraudsters would have targeted their money.

In a clear attempt to move the senior citizen to quick action, the supposed police officer asked her to withdraw a medium four -digit amount of cash from her bank. The lady was instructed to put the money in a pocket and then put it on her property. Without knowing that she had been on a fraudster, the senior citizen followed the instructions. As a result, the money was picked up by the perpetrators without the senior one saw someone.

The investigation runs

The police advise never to hand over money to unknown persons or when asked by anonymous callers. This applies in particular if the person claims to be an official. The trust that is shown in such a performance can quickly lead to high financial losses. The investigation into this incident continues, and the police asks the population to stay vigilant and report suspicious calls immediately.
