Allgäu animal welfare process: farmers for cattle torture in court!

Dramatic scenes in the courtroom of Memmingen! Three farmers from the Allgäu are in court, accused of having inflicted unimaginable suffering from their cattle. The defense vehemently fights for an acquittal and sees no violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

The process began with an hour -long delay, which was caused by an unexpected conversation in advance. Despite the efforts of the defense to stop the procedure, the public prosecutor held on to serious allegations. The 69-year-old senior and his two sons, 40 and 38 years old, are accused of neglecting 32 cattle and thereby causing cruel suffering. Instead of calling a vet to treat sick and injured animals, they are said to have saved, which led to frightening conditions in the animals.

Horriage in the animals

The pictures from the dairy farm are shattering: emaciated animals with large football swellings, curved backs and open wounds. Over 20 cattle had to be killed after the examination by official veterinarians, some even died. The defense now plans to provide evidence that should prove that the animals were either treated or were not in need of treatment. An expert should support these claims.

The two sons are not responsible according to defense because they were not integrated into the corporate management. The senior boss himself had previously rejected the allegations and emphasized that there were regular veterinarians in the stable. The case is part of the Allgäu animal welfare scandal, which got rolling through a uncovered video of an animal welfare organization in 2019. The process already has 19 further days of negotiations, and a judgment could be made by the end of February.
