70 Temposünden on Ratingen's streets: Police raise the alarm!
On Monday, October 14, 2024, the traffic service of the district police authority Mettmann carried out speed controls on Kahlenbergsweg in Ratingen. In an area, which is used as usual, in which a top speed of 50 km/h applies within the closed town, there were a total of 501 passing vehicles. The gratifying: the majority, namely 431 drivers, adhered to the speed limit. Nevertheless, 70 vehicles were registered that were too fast.
There are a few cases under these traffic consecrators, with a woman from Mettmann particularly noticeable with her car. It was "flashed" at 84 km/h, which results in a review of the speed crossing of a whopping 31 km/h after the tolerance value has been deducted. For this violation, she is faced with a fine of at least 260 euros, one month of driving ban and two points in Flensburg.
unannounced controls
The district police authority Mettmann has changed its strategy regarding speed monitoring. In the past, the locations of the controls were announced in advance to inform the road users. In the context of the new traffic strategy #leben, however, it is now planned that speed measurements take place without an announcement in order to increase the pressure on speed offenders and thus improve traffic safety. This decision follows that surprising controls are more effective in order to make the traffic safer.
The authority plans to report regularly on the results of their controls and reminds the public that speed measurements can be expected at all times in the entire district. High speeds remain one of the most common causes of accidents, and the police therefore urge the citizens to adhere to the permitted speed limits.
The freshly converted control of the speed underlines the commitment of the police to make road traffic safer. A decline in traffic violations could not only reduce the number of accidents, but also increase awareness of compliance with the traffic rules. Regular reporting on the results of the speed controls should also contribute to the transparency of police work.
