Crisis of trust: Austrians doubt the security of pensions and health!
With the beginning of 2025, concern for the stability of social benefits is growing in Austria. A current survey by the “Market” opinion research institute, which was carried out for the “Standard”, has removed alarming results. Accordingly, 66 percent of the surveyed are doubts about the security of pension and health systems in the coming year. This represents a drastic decline in trust if you look at the 34 percent of the optimistic participants. The concerns about the stability are by no means new: in 2021 it was 64 and in 2023 62 percent, such as kosmo.at reported.
The young generation is particularly affected: 70 percent of 16- to 49-year-olds doubt the safety of these systems. In addition, the fears vary depending on political preferences; FPÖ voters are most skeptical with 78 percent, followed by Neos supporters with 72 percent. Political uncertainty could result in further adaptations in the social area, including salaries and other social benefits that are influenced by the increased cost of living and inflation. From 2025 a number of economic adjustments in Austria will also be effective, which also include heating costs and family support, the Böckler Blog .overall social effects
At least the role of the welfare state is also discussed in the debate, especially in Germany, where there are more comprehensive social benefits such as health insurance and pension insurance. These systems are currently under pressure due to the emerging discussions about savings and reforms. In order to combat social inequalities, an improvement in social infrastructure and social security is required to increase the quality of life of citizens. For many people, these developments could be crucial, especially in an economic field in which despite a shortage of skilled workers, many stuck in the low -wage sector. An effective welfare state can only be achieved through targeted measures, which offers citizens security while the challenges of demographic change are addressed at the same time.Details | |
