Vettel before return: Marko sees him as a successor to Red Bull!
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport consultant, recently brought Sebastian Vettel into play as the "ideal successor candidate" for his position. Marko, who will soon be 82 years old, indicated that his resignation was imminent, even if he has not yet determined a specific date. As Oe24.at, it would be great for Marko, if Vettel took on the role of the motorsport consultant. The four-time world champion had driven Red Bull between 2009 and 2014 and won four World Cup titles from 2010 to 2013.
The current motorsport consultant sees a worthy successor in Vettel, since it is already active in the karting area and has experience in the strategic orientation of a Formula 1 team. In addition, Vettel remains in contact with Marko and left open whether the position will be considered for him in the future. Vettel pointed out that it would be a shame if Marko leaves the team and estimates its extensive experience and internal dynamics.
Marko's heir and the influence of Vettel
Helmut Marko has been part of the team in Formula 1 in Formula 1 since Red Bull was founded. He led the junior program from which both Vettel and Max Verstappen come. In this context, it is no surprise that Marko and Vettel have won four world championship titles for Red Bull together. Marko himself once had a career as a Formula 1 driver, which, however, ended prematurely due to an accident.
After his resignation in 2022, Vettel took a little return to racing and in 2023 there was some demonstration rounds for Red Bull on the Nordschleife. He is also involved in the youth area, for example through the organization of the "Race4women" in Dschidda. This shows that it is still a significant factor in motorsport.
The Red Bull Junior team
However,Vettel is not only connected to Red Bull by his success as a driver. It is part of a system that contributes to the promotion of young talents. Almost half of the 2025 Formula 1 field consists of drivers who went through the Red Bull Junior program. As can be read on Formel1.de Program promoted.
The Red Bull Junior team was founded in 2001 with the aim of identifying and supporting young racing drivers. The team currently includes 16 drivers, including up-and-coming talents such as Ayumu Iwasa and Isack Hadjar, who will be the 17th Formula 1 driver from this system in 2025. As a result, Red Bull not only secures the talents of tomorrow, but also their future in Formula 1.
Vettel's possible return to a leading role at Red Bull not only marks a significant change within the team, but could also significantly influence the next steps in the Red Bull Junior program, while Marko is preparing for a retreat. As nau.ch remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether Vettel actually develop as a marker is considered.
