Strabag counts on new CEO: Kratochwill leads pioneering changes!

Donau-City-Straße 9, 1220 Vienna, Austria - Stefan Kratochwill, an experienced manager, was used with immediate effect as the new CEO of Strabag SE. The decision of the supervisory board, which was announced on February 19, 2025, comes at a time of change for the largest construction group in Austria, which faces a number of strategic challenges. Kratochwill, who studied industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, brings over 20 years of professional experience to the group. He started his career as a trainee in 2003 and played a central role in building the organization in Southeast Europe for the subsidiary Strabag BMTI GmbH. His last position was that of the central area manager, where he was responsible for around 3,000 employees, such as Business Insider reported .

Kratochwill will be at the head of the company until December 31, 2026 and is determined to continue the vision of his predecessor Klemens Haselsteiner, who died unexpectedly in mid -January at the age of 44. "It is an honor for me to continue his vision for Strabag," he said. The company has hit the tragic loss strongly, especially since Haselsteiner was significantly involved in one of the most comprehensive transformation processes in the history of Strabag, which was initiated in response to geopolitical challenges, especially in connection with business in Russia, such as Wiener Zeitung reported .

strategic challenges and progress

Under Kratochwill, Strabag will continue its course towards climate neutrality and technological progress. His focus will be on the further standardization and digitization of the construction processes in order to counteract the challenges of the shortage of skilled workers in the industry. In 2023, Strabag recorded an impressive increase in profit from one third to 630.5 million euros, which represents a remarkable starting point for its term. The profit per share increased by 37 percent to 6.30 euros, and the company employs over 77,000 people worldwide.
