Matthew is urging Bavaria: Kimmich is said to be the new captain!

The former football professional Lothar Matthäus has expressed a proposal for the future captain of FC Bayern Munich. In the “Sport-Bild”, Matthäus demands that Joshua Kimmich should take over the captain's armband of the association in order to persuade him to extend the contract. Kimmich's current contract expires in summer. Matthew respects Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller's merits, both of whom are also in the squad.

Kimmich has already taken over the captain's office of Manuel Neuer's German national team, who resigned from his post after the 2024 European Championships. Neuer, who turns 39 in March, has ended his career in the national team and is expected to extend his contract at FC Bayern by 2026. Matthäus emphasizes the historical importance of leading both the national team and FC Bayern.

Captain change and possible unrest

Matthäus is open to a change of captain in winter, but warns of possible unrest in the club. He sees the need to install Joshua Kimmich as a new captain, since his contract also requires an extension. The former world champion suggests that those responsible for FC Bayern and Vincent Kompany should think about Kimmich's early promotion.

In addition, Matthew emphasizes that new ones, even if he was supposed to hand over the captain's armband, could probably deal with this change. He recommends making Kimmich the captain at the latest to lead the club in a new direction.
