Audi returns: confusion about new model names!

Audi makes headlines again with a surprising U -turn in the nomenclature of his vehicle models. A few times after the introduction of a system that would have marked electric cars with straight and burners with odd numbers, the car manufacturer shows a radical departure from this plan. According to krone.at this distinction will be dropped, and the new model names should now be based on size and positioning. This caused confusion among many customers and dealers worldwide and triggered an intensive discussion.

It is particularly noticeable that from March 4, a new vehicle, the Audi A6 with an internal combustion engine, will be officially presented. The A6 is offered as an A6 Avant TFSI in stores, while the electric model remains known as the A6 Avant E-Tron. This makes the distinction between electrical and combustion models through additions such as body form and drive butt, according to the board of directors Marco Schubert. This change in nomenclature, which now introduces the letter-digit combinations for both electrical and combustion models, is intended to ensure intuitive orientation in the Audi portfolio, as Kurier reports

confusion remains

Although the old regulation, which was based on clear distinctions between drive types, is dropped, the names will be unified in the future. The Audi Q4 Etron remains in sales, while the vehicle known as Audi Q3 continues to operate under the name Q4. This reserved course correction shows the difficulties with which Audi is confronted in order to meet the wishes of the customers and at the same time maintain a consistent brand image.
