Wiener ÖVP calls for KI: Health system must be saved!

Wien, Österreich - The Wiener ÖVP has proclaimed the “Operation: Health System” as part of the Vienna election campaign. At a press conference, which was led by Karl Mahrer, the non -Tams -leading city council and top candidate, as well as municipal councilor Ingrid Korosec, the challenges of urban healthcare were clearly discussed. Mahrer and Korosec saw a "crisis of the system", which is characterized by overloaded hospitals and long waiting times for patients. Especially since the influx of refugees in 2015, the situation has worsened, which has led to a lack of health insurance, especially in child and adolescent healing.

Mahrer found that the ÖVP was willing to implement necessary reforms as a possible coalition partner. In order to promote the urgently needed structural reforms and the digitization of the health system, the ÖVP is planning, among other things, the expansion and digitization of the health hotline 1450. This should also include telemedicine, video examinations and the possibility of booking an appointment. A study by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce indicates that up to nine million outpatient visits could be saved annually by improved control of the patient streams, which would result in savings of around 2.4 billion euros.

Another central point in the demands of the Vienna ÖVP is the use of the latest software in hospitals for patient documentation and digital pharmaceutical lists. Korosec criticized that Vienna's hospital system stuck in the "digital Stone Age" and compared the situation with the digital health records in Estonia or the proven routine of telemedicine in Scandinavian countries. She demanded that Vienna are based on the high-tech hospitals in South Korea and Singapore. She paid particular attention to the fact that operating theaters in Vienna are often empty from 2:30 p.m.

Korosec also praised the progress in the expansion of the primary care centers: 24 of the 36 facilities announced, 24 have already been opened, including eight especially for children. This expansion is part of the strategy to focus on prevention and preventive examinations in order to promote the health of people in Vienna.
