University Medicine Göttingen: New professorship for nursing science from 2025!

The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) sets a strong sign of the development of nursing science. From August 1, 2025, a new professorship will be set up in the geriatrics clinic. This Initiative is aimed at strengthening academic and practical care research and is led by the experienced specialist Christine von Arnim.

The central task of the new professorship will be the promotion of practical, interdisciplinary research projects that focus on supply research. Research will particularly dedicate the areas of intensive and anesthesia care as well as oncological care. In addition, scientific work is to be published and third -party funds are to be raised to support further research initiatives. "The importance of nursing science is growing steadily in Germany," said Arnim. With its new approach, the UMG wants to advance the professionalization of the nursing profession and the academization of nurses.

academization and evidence -based care

Another point is the introduction of the professional bachelor's degree in "Practice-oriented nursing science", which will play a central role in the training of future nurses in the future. This training is particularly important against the background of demographic change and the increasing number of older people who need innovative care approaches. These approaches should be closely linked to theoretical knowledge in order to guarantee high -quality care.

A central goal of the professorship is to establish evidence -based standards for nursing practice. This will lead to the fact that nursing quality and new career paths are created in nursing, as was already recommended by the Science Council in 2012. The renewed confirmation of this proposal in October 2023 shows that the UMG is on the right track to remain competitive in the international fair.

Christine von Arnim emphasized that the professorship would also represent care as an evidence -based discipline in teaching and research. A close cooperation with other areas of the UMG, the Education Academy and the Göttingen health campus is decisive for the success of this initiative. The active participation in existing research associations and the development and expansion of international research networks are also in the areas of responsibility of the new professorship.

The UMG takes over a pioneering role in nursing science through this new occupation and sets standards for a higher academic rate in the nursing professions. By adhering to evidence -based research, the university will not only develop the quality in nursing, but also optimally prepare the specialists of tomorrow for the challenges in the aging society. The comprehensive plans to strengthen nursing science underline the commitment of the UMG in an area that is of the greatest importance for the future of healthcare
