Tyrol's abortion debate: government announces new practice!
A dramatic step in health care for women decided on Tuesday! Despite the deadline solution for abortions that have been in force since 1975, which still represent a sensitive taboo subject in Tyrol, there is finally progress. Currently, only one doctor, Hans Joachim Wolf, conducts abortions in Tyrol, which makes the supply situation problematic. Now a renowned gynecologist with financial support of around 90,000 euros is being found to open a new practice in Innsbruck. This practice is not set up on the clinic site, but nearby. However, the contract negotiations with the doctor are still running, so that the exact opening of the opening remains uncertain, as ORF Tirol reports.
Women's policy in Tyrol, however, is criticized. Zeliha Arslan from the Greens expressed that the government's decision was only a minimalist solution for a major problem. Instead of offering abortions in public hospitals, only a privately managed ordination is promoted. This situation is particularly disappointing, as it comes shortly before the annual World Women's Day on March 8th. The criticism is also supported by SPÖ National Councilor Selma Yildirim, who emphasizes that abortions are a health service that is carried out in public institutions in all other federal states, as has recently been carried out in Vorarlberg.
Health strategies for women
In addition to supporting the new practice, the Tyrolean state government has passed a comprehensive women's health strategy that includes eleven subject areas and 34 fields of action. The focus is on prevention, sex education, mental health and birth protection. A central aspect of the strategy is the expansion of a "women's health network" that is intended to provide low -threshold access to health offers. The planned new offers for abortions include three methods: the drug demolition, surgical suction and the scraping. These procedures should be carried out in close consultation with a specialist in order to ensure the best possible care for affected women, as is explained on the website of the Tyrol pregnancy. Medicinal demolition can take place in the first nine weeks, while the surgical methods can be used throughout the deadline solution, which underlines the complexity and challenges in the region's reproductive medicine.
