Deutschland, Deutschland - An alarm sign for health! Sleep disorders have gained a leak in Germany. According to current estimates, around 6.2 million people now suffer from sleep problems - an increase of 1.7 million within a decade! The strong increase in 20- to 29-year-olds is particularly worrying, while most affected people can be found between the ages of 60 and 69.

The Barmer Health Insurance Fund identifies a number of causes of this alarming development. Stress, anxiety and health problems are at the top of the list. Irregular sleeping habits and the use of smartphones or computers before going to bed also make a decisive contribution to insomnia. The negative effects are also dramatic: difficulties of concentration, increased irritability and a weakened immune system are just a few of the fatal consequences that those affected now feel.
These disturbing messages were broadcast on Deutschlandfunk on October 25, 2024 and throw a bright light on the creeping crisis of sleep in Germany. Insomnia is increasingly becoming a health risk that cannot be ignored!
