New psychotherapy law: a big step for mental health!

Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - On January 1, 2025, the new psychotherapy law (PTHG 2024) comes into force, which results in restructuring the psychotherapy council. This committee, which supports the Minister of Health in the event of training matters, is formed by representatives of different institutions, including professional associations and universities. The main tasks of the advisory board include the discussion of technical topics, the submission of statements and the creation of expert reports within the framework of regulations in accordance with the PTHG 2024 href = "https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_2025026_ots0040/ Konstituentendendendes-satungen-dsychotherapy-neu-und-und-des-fuer-vocal matters"> ots.at reported.

A new, important body was launched on February 25, 2025: the body for professional affairs. This will advise the Minister of Health on professional law issues and psychotherapeutic care in Austria. Barbara Haid, President of the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy (ÖBVP), emphasized the importance of this body in order to increase the importance of psychotherapy and to strengthen the speaking language in psychotherapeutic care. One of the goals is the development of standardized quality criteria for further and further training. The composition comprises 15 members among which representatives of important organizations in the field of psychotherapy are, such as psyonline.at point out.

With this legal reform, new regulations for professional approval and exercise of psychotherapy are also introduced in order to increase the quality standard. The Minister of Health is obliged to lead an electronic professional list in which only people are accepted who can demonstrate the necessary qualifications. These innovations are to be seen as a milestone for psychotherapy in Austria, as they aim to promote the mental health of the population through better advice and support.
