New ethics committee in Schaumburg: Help with difficult decisions!
District of Schaumburg. There are often tricky ethical questions that go far beyond medical knowledge. In order to meet these challenges, the new non -clinical ethics committee of Schaumburg has started its work. It offers support for all medical and nursing facilities in the region and is also available directly.
The ethics committee specializes in moderating ethical conflicts that can arise in medical decisions. "In everyday life, we often encounter situations that are not just about medical facts, but also about the question of what is ethically correct," explains Jan Bartholomaeus, chairman of the palliative support association Schaumburg. The team, led by the general practitioner Tina Renner, consists of experts from various areas, including lawyers and experts from theology and care.
A variety of questions
The topics with which the committee deals are diverse and often affect critical decisions. What happens if a patient is no longer decisive? How do you interpret living will? And when is it ethically justifiable to end therapy? These questions are common in medical practice and the answers are often anything but clear. The ethics committee has the task of analyzing such complex questions and finding solutions that meet the different values.
The consultations that take about 40 to 60 minutes are free of charge and are carried out on site where the patient is located-be it in a clinic, a nursing home or at home. The support association asks for donations in order to maintain the offer in the long term. Interested parties can report by phone or email to take advantage of or obtain further information.
