More school for Vienna: A victory for the health of our children!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - In Austria, our children's health is raised to a new level! The Austrian Health and Nursing Association (ÖGKV) relies on the essential role of School Nurses to strengthen the health and well-being of the students: inside. ÖGKV President Elisabeth Potzmann said that the introduction of 40 School is a great progress. "The presence of School Nurses in schools is a major contribution to health promotion and prevention. They are the first contact persons for health concerns and promote health literacy," says Potzmann. However, the organization demands that every school has to be permanently equipped with its own school, because the health of the students: inside must not be left to chance. This claim was urgently emphasized in the press release of the ÖGKV to ensure that these important specialists remain part of everyday school life, and not only act as a limited project.
But that's not all! According to a survey by the Medical Association for Vienna, which was carried out in 2022, 82 percent of those surveyed are doctors: Interior believes that nursing staff are indispensable. The lack of nursing staff is a massive problem that causes work overload in the hospital. Dr. Stefan Ferenci, managing vice president and chairman of the curia, underlined the importance of a well -functioning health system and the need to pull together together. The training of nursing staff at universities of applied sciences is also emphasized as the key to improving the situation, since this academic training is not only comparable internationally, but also a springboard for numerous nursing professions. Mag. Ulrike Prommer, President of the University of Applied Sciences Conference, emphasizes that the innovative access regulation to the universities of applied sciences is a unique selling point without Matura.
Sustainable health care
The measures of the nursing reform presented a year ago show the first positive effects. Johannes Rauch, Federal Minister of Social Affairs, Health, Nursing and Consumer Protection, emphasizes that the financing of care must be secured in the long term in order to promote the positive developments and to meet the requirements of the future. Linking between the training of nurses and creating school health services is a crucial step in the right direction. This could be a sustainable solution to ensure health care in Austria, as is repeatedly emphasized by various experts.
These urgent topics to improve health care, especially in schools and hospital work, illustrate the need to increase both training and the number of nurses and to anchor these changes in the long term. This is the only way to ensure effective and continuous support for the next generation.
