Puppy trade uncovered on the motorway parking lot: police intervene!
Pichl bei Wels, Österreich - On Friday, March 14th, an illegal puppy trade in Austria was uncovered when an attentive driver in the Pichl area at Wels informed the police at around 8:30 a.m. Thanks to an immediately initiated search, the Ried motorway police managed to stop and control the suspicious vehicle at the location in the Innkreis. The officers found two neglected shepherd gorgeous mixers on the back seat, which were transported without the necessary transport protection. The puppies were then taken away from the 22-year-old vehicle driver from Romania, which was reported for violations of the animal welfare and animal health law, as 5min.at reported.
The concerns about the situation of the puppies raise questions that go beyond the current incident. The need for strict regulations in international animal trade is becoming more and more urgent. In addition, a new regulation came into force on January 19, 2013, which prescribes the exchange of old driver's licenses in EU card leaders in order to make the documents for fake. But there are also important deadlines in this matter: all driver's licenses that were issued before this date must be exchanged by the beginning of 2033 in order to remain valid. This can be learned, among other things, on the website of the Berlin administration .
The recent events are reminiscent of how important it is to be attentive and report illegal practices quickly. Rescue of the puppies could be a first step in a lengthy debate about animal welfare and the proper regulation of animal trade. In the meantime, those who do not adhere to the law are faced with legal consequences that follow the Animal Welfare Act and the Animal Health Act.
