Heat supply in transition: Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities tackle!
Almost 50% of the municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt are in the starting blocks to put their heat supply on climate-friendly legs! In order to support the communities on this important path, the state energy agency Saxony-Anhalt (Lena) carried out a number of impressive regional forums on behalf of the state government. In autumn 2024, five forums took place under the motto "Heat future", which attracted over 400 participants - from mayors to municipal councils. "The series of events was a complete success," draws Lena managing director Marko Mühlstein a positive conclusion. This high participation shows the enormous need for information in the municipalities, because the challenges in heat and energy supply are great and require innovative solutions. In the forums, the participants were able to exchange ideas intensively via the transformation in the electricity and heating area and shed light on the role of wind and solar energy in order to achieve a climate-neutral energy supply.
strong cooperation for a green future
The focus was not only on the theory, but also practical implementations! Numerous projects showed how the heat transition can actually succeed. For example, the Bioenergiedorf Tangeln clarified how citizen participation and local initiatives can make a significant contribution to success. The city of Haldensleben and Halle (Saale) act as a pioneer in municipal heat planning by recognizing their own needs and potential to develop a sustainable heating system. The forums also presented a new practice -oriented guide to municipal heat planning, which is intended to help the municipalities to develop the necessary expertise and to integrate external support. This new resource is accessible on Lena's website and offers municipalities a valuable orientation for the next steps.
By laws such as the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), municipalities can benefit directly from renewable energies. The financial benefit is not to be scoffed at: A wind turbine with 7 MW power brings around 30,000 euros annually to the coffers of the municipalities! This amount will increase in 2025. Dirk Trappe, authorized representative of Lena, emphasizes the importance of acceptance in the communities: "Acceptance arises when citizens recognize the opportunities of the energy transition." The Lena continues to work for close cooperation between different actors to optimally exploit the potential of the energy transition, as well as can be read on the website of Lena .
