The incident occurred in the village of Ljubelj Kalnički, not far from Varaždin, where the police examined the neglect in the family after a reference to possible abuse of children. The parents, a 34-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, have been living in isolation from the rest of the village community for five years. The local authorities were informed about the non -existent registration of the children and confirmed that there were no records of their existence. The investigation showed that the parents pursue a sect -like lifestyle in which they do not recognize state laws and only live according to their own principles considered divine.

During the allegations of investigation, the suspicious parents denied any responsibility and accused the circumstances that led to this "work of beasts".
