Collecting in the forest: What is allowed and where threaten punishments?

In the forest, not everything that many people may think is allowed. The laws for collecting mushrooms, berries and other forest fruits are clearly defined. For example, the so -called small forest use, i.e. the collecting of mushrooms and berries, may only be carried out with express or tacit consent of the forest owner. According to the Carinthian mushroom regulation, collecting mushrooms that do not fall under all year round is limited to a maximum of two kilograms per person per day, unless the owner is expressly against it. These regulations have been confirmed by the Carinthia Chamber of Agriculture and underline the importance of the consent of the forest owner, as already reported Meinzirk.at.

In addition, strict punishments are intended for violations. If a person falls under the ban on collecting more than two kilograms of mushrooms without permission, the forest law provides fines of up to 150 euros. In more severe cases, such as illegal participation in collective events, punishments of up to 730 euros or even prison sentences of up to one week can be imposed. These are drastic measures to protect the regulations of forest use and prevent abuse, as is explained on Austria.gv.at.
