District in turmoil: Michael Seidel rejects mandate - what now?

Freiberg, Deutschland - On January 22, 2025, a special meeting of the district council of the district of Mittelachsen will take place. This session was convened at the order of the State Directorate of Saxony, and an invitation to the members of the committee has already been sent. The reason for the session is the rejection of the mandate by the chosen district councilor Michael Seidel, who does not want to accept this for controversial reasons.

According to the law,

citizens are obliged to take on a voluntary mandate, unless an important reason is available. Such a reason, for example, could be a longstanding job in a volunteer position such as the district council or a city or municipal council, with a period of ten years being considered sufficient. According to the provisions, the district council has to officially determine an important reason by decision. However, the reasons made by Michael Seidel were not recognized in the meetings on August 14, 2024 and December 11, 2024. The State Directorate of Saxony has therefore ordered that an important reason to reject the mandate must be determined by January 24, 2025 at the latest. Otherwise, the state directorate Saxony could make a replacement.

unclear succession plan

How the Freie Presse was reported to the three-member group of Bündats, but also his rejection of the mandate was chosen for discussions. It is unclear whether Markus Scholz will take this place in the district council. The Middle Saxon district council will deal with this personnel again next Wednesday. There are also contradictory assessments between the district office and the legal supervision of the State Directorate of Saxony, which indicates a possible longer legal discussion.

The public meeting of the district council starts at 3:00 p.m. in the “Julius Weisbach” school center in Freiberg.
