Animal protection alarm in Weiz: Stray cats in need - politics required!
Weiz, Österreich - In Styria, animal rights activists have taken alarming measures. In Weiz, 40 straying cats were brought to the ARCHE NOAH animal shelter from the animal rescue of active animal welfare. The animals that are heavily emaciated and suffer from cat cold urgently need medical care. Some cats have lost one or even both eyes. This emergency was discovered by attentive hikers who had observed the animals.
Katharina Gründl from active animal welfare describes the concerning situation: "People feed the cats instead of solving the problem. The uncontrolled increase leads to hundreds of animals within years." In order to put an end to this misery, Gründl calls for legal regulations on the castration of cats, similar to dogs. According to her assessment, the population continuously increases, which requires urgent measures. Active animal welfare also appeals not to make impulsive pet gifts for Christmas. The animal shelters are already overloaded, occupied by 80 percent of the places, and the demand for animals has increased enormously.
