Simbabwes of historical step: Abolition of the death penalty for justice!
Simbabwe - In a crucial step, Zimbabwe abolished the death penalty, a long -awaited progress that is praised by the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace as significantly. This decision was made possible by a cooperation between the church, the government and civil society organizations. President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed the law to abolish the death penalty on December 31, 2024, which gives the country more orienting its legal framework on Christian values. The last execution took place in 2005, and now the penalties of about 60 prisoners in the death wing in lifelong imprisonment were converted, such as Vaticannews.va .
The strategic cooperation between the church and the government aims to offer therapies and consultations in order to help the families of victims in their healing process. These developments not only mark a legal, but also moral progress for Zimbabwe and are part of a wider goal of promoting a culture of life, respect and dignity for all people. The Church appeals to the government to take active steps against human rights violations and thus set the course for a fairer society.
