Fight against violence: St. Pölten shines orange for women's rights!
In St. Pölten, the “16 days against violence” campaign was started in order to draw attention to the explosive topic of violence against women by December 10th, such as the website meindezirk.at reported. Particular concern in the city becomes clear because over 10,000 stays in women's house was recorded last year. "The relevance of the topic has not decreased," said Martina Eigelsreiter, head of the office for diversity in St. Pölten. It is about creating more public attention for the suffering and challenges of the women concerned and at the same time to strengthen the existing support offers such as men's advice.

The International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women on November 25th formed the start of this important campaign. This day, also known as an orange day, is reminiscent of the need to combat discrimination and violence against women and girls worldwide. The United Nations has been initiating the "Orange the World" campaign since 1991 to point out violence with various actions and events. These actions last until the International Day of Human Rights on December 10th and also express their expression in cities such as St. Pölten, where important buildings are immersed in orange light to set an urgent sign against violence, such as wikipedia.org explained in detail.
In St. Pölten, the city illuminates the urgency of such topics through various events that also aim at the prevention of violence. The Soroptimist International Club Allegria has organized special workshops for young people in order to raise awareness of violence prevention. Ingeborg Haslhofer-Yünnemann, President of the Club, emphasizes that any kind of violence against women and girls in our society should not have any space. Thomas Gludovatz, managing director of the St. Pölten Festival House, added that it was essential to help the victims of violence and to sensitize society to this problem.
