Big blow against cybercrime: Administrator from Crimenetwork arrested!
An impressive blow to cybercrime: Investigators of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the general prosecutor Frankfurt am Main arrested a 29-year-old man on Monday who worked as a suspected technical administrator of the criminal platform "Crimenetwork". This platform was considered the largest German-language online marketplace for illegal goods and services, reports krone.at . With more than 100,000 registered users, "Crimenetwork" offered a variety of illegal products, including stolen data, drugs and fake documents.
When the technician was arrested, which was responsible for the IT infrastructure and maintenance of the platform, valuable evidence was also ensured. This includes extensive user and transaction data as well as assets worth around one million euros in cryptocurrencies. The investigation, which also received international support, enables valuable insights into the structural mechanisms behind "Crimenetwork", as the BKA emphasizes in a further message. The customers of the platform paid in particular in Bitcoin and Monero, while the operators generated revenues through commission payments and monthly fees of sellers, such as bka.de
joint efforts against cybercrime
of this arrest follows a number of other successful measures by the BKA in the fight against organized cybercrime. As part of the “Operation Endgame”, the German criminal prosecution had numerous important successes. This included the destruction of various platforms used for illegal activities and the arrest of cybercriminals at an international level. The shutdown of the most dangerous malware families and the confiscation of cryptocurrency platforms illustrate the continuing effort to combat cybercrime and to protect society from digital threats.
