Women at the top: Record number of mayors for Women's Day 2025
A new record is celebrated in Austria today, on International Women's Day: 236 mayors are at the top of communities - these are undoubtedly more than ever. This number is significant progress, since the quota for women has increased to around 11 percent of a total of 2,092 communities. The high proportion in Lower Austria is particularly noteworthy, where 87 of 573 communities are led by women, which corresponds to 15 percent.
