Woman survives cruel knife attack in Wiener Kanzlei

Wien-Landstraße, Österreich - On February 3, 2025, a shocking knife attack occurred in a law firm in Vienna-Landstrasse. A 53-year-old man stabbed a 56-year-old employee 16 times who was able to save herself in a stable state after the horrendous attack. Doctors refer to their survival as extraordinary, given the serious injuries on the face, chest and abdominal area as well as on the arms and legs. The attack was the result of a discussion about money payments that have been between the aggressor and the law firm Turbulent since August 2024.

The perpetrator had illegitically identified himself with an expired passport in the law firm and asked for 400 euros on the day of the crime, but only received 200 euros, which further heated up his aggression. After the first verbal conflicts, the man finally returned with a covered face and struck the employee in the staircase. Despite the serious injuries suffered, the woman was able to alert a colleague who informed the emergency services. The perpetrator fled, however, was caught by the police the same evening.

mental health of the perpetrator

Psychiatric report showed that the man suffered from severe paranoid schizophrenia, which questioned his accountability at the time of the crime. This reflects the findings that schizophrenia is often associated with increased suicide councils and a high risk of violent fermentation. Although the doctors classify the attacker as not guilty, the decision on an unlimited accommodation in a forensic-therapeutic center on July 10 is negotiated before the Vienna Court of Criminal Court.

Treatment of schizophrenia requires a multi -professional and individually adapted treatment approach. Immediate therapy and risk minimization should take place during the acute phase. Antipsychotics are used as a therapy of choice, with the relapse rate with correctly treated paranoid schizophrenia is 12-15 percent-in contrast to 40-60 percent in untreated patients. The average length of stay in forensic institutions is about 5.3 years, with a success rate in the reintegration of around 70 percent according to a gradual discharge.

social implications

schizophrenia is a heterogeneous psychotic disorder with a lifetime prevalence of 0.3 to 0.66 percent worldwide. In the past two decades, the instructions of schizophrenia patients have increased significantly into the enforcement of measures. These developments irritate both social and health -political discussions. It is important that the perception of people with schizophrenia is not distorted by the violence associated with the disease, since many affected people themselves are often victims of aggression.

In summary, it can be said that schizophrenia represents a complex and often misunderstood disease, which underlines the need for targeted treatment approaches and the stigmatization of those affected. The honorable society must help promote mental health and to ensure the necessary support for endangered people.
