Carnival parade in Wagram: animals, cowboys and delicious donuts!
A colorful spectacle of the extra class took place during the two -year carnival parade in Wagram! Minions, nuns, monks, sailors and cowboys with their own saloon roamed the streets and captivated thousands of spectators who enthusiastically watched in homemade costumes. The happy crowd of fools was found in St. Pölten's first district to admire the hustle and bustle and enjoyed the delicious NÖN donuts-a total of about 5,000 pieces were distributed, as the NÖN reported.
Not only the carnival parade caused a sensation. An exciting lecture recently took place at the University of Basel, in which the Middle Ages researcher Dr. Delphine Conzelmann brought life closer to the children in a monastery. She explained that monasteries were once education centers and still play an important role today. The children learned that monks and nuns in the Middle Ages lived a modest life that was shaped by God and the community. In the monastery there were independent structures with daily prayers, gardening and life according to strict rules. The monastery, a "claustrum" on Latin, meant a protected space, separated from the outside world, where the community lived and worked to live out their faith.
from carnival to monastery life
These two events illustrate the contrast between the colorful, exuberant celebration of the carnival and the serious, structured life in monasteries. While the Wagramer carnival parade loudly cheers and carefree celebrations come first, the lecture in the monastery provides insights into a way of life that is characterized by discipline and spirituality. The monasteries were not only withdrawal, but also places of learning and self -sufficiency, where everyone had their place and pursued a common goal. Some of them have changed over the centuries, but are still of great importance for society in many aspects.
