Biomass conference in Graz: Innovations for a sustainable future!

The 8th Central European Biomass Conference (CEBC2026) will take place from January 21 to 23, 2026 in Graz, Austria. At this event, which is organized by well-known institutions such as the Austrian Biomass Association and the Styria Chamber of Agriculture, the focus is on the exchange of scientific knowledge and innovative solutions in the field of bioenergy. Target groups include scientists, politicians, industrial representatives and society. The organizers are also the Best - Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies GmbH, the University of Natural Resources Affairs (Boku), the Montan University Leoben and the Messe Congress Graz, which will host the event.

The deadline for the Call for Papers The conference is June 17, 2025. Lectists benefit from several advantages, among other things from the publication of the abstract in the printed conference band with ISBN and the possibility to present their work in a special issue of the Biomass Conversion & Biorefinery Journal. In addition, all lecturers receive free admission to the event.

topics of the conference

At the conference, various topics are dealt with that are of central importance for the development and use of biomass. These include:

  • resources, earnings increase and logistics
  • sustainability, circular economy and politics
  • electricity, heat and cold from biomass
  • gases, fuels and chemicals
  • Green Carbon, Bioccs and Bioccu
  • Effective use of biomass/bioenergy in industrial processes
  • digitization, flexible and hybrid bioen energy systems

Additional content on the biomass and its use, which are also discussed at the 27th European Biomass Conference 2025, result from the analysis of biomass resources and its implementation. In this way, innovative approaches such as sustainable integrated agricultural management practices and the use of algae for biomass production are also presented. Techniques for thermochemical and biological biomass conference are also worked out to support the versatile operational capacity of biomass. sustainability requirements and certification systems

The sustainable use of bioenergy is a central concern that should not be at the expense of man and nature. The EU directive for the promotion of renewable energy sources (2009/28/EC) determines minimum goals and sustainability requirements, which apply to both the production and the energetic use of biomass. This includes, among other things, the traceability of the sustainably produced biomass, which is guaranteed via the IT application elna

Compliance with the defined sustainability criteria is checked by national or voluntary certification systems. Companies must exist regular on-site controls by subject experts from the Federal Environmental Office in order to comply with the guidelines. These controls also apply to producers of sustainable biofuels, energy retailers and operators of camps.

Through the required measures and the exchange of a variety of innovative ideas and technologies at upcoming conferences, the potential of the biomass is further established and improved as a key resource for a sustainable future.
