Season quota 2025: Tourism urgently needs more specialists!
In a crucial step towards strengthening the tourism sector, Labor and Economic Minister Martin Kocher has now sent a draft to expand the seasonal contingents for 2025. The planned increase, which applies in particular to the Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg tourism states, is intended to help meet the growing need for specialists. Kocher emphasized that the positive booking situation in the winter season, especially after the successful summer of 2024, made it necessary to adapt the quotas to combat the lack of personnel in key sectors. According to the Kocher, the current situation in the tourism federal states, where there is extensive full employment, was again underlined by the large number of open spots, "in a way on the brink".increase in seasonal contingents
The regulation provides for an increase in the overall quota for tourism from 4495 to 4985 places, which means that almost 3000 places have been added since 2022. During a press conference, Kocher and State Secretary of Tourism Susanne Kraus-Winkler reported that the contingents, which are often and continuously adapted due to the pressing shortage of labor, are crucial in order to ensure the necessary service quality both in the catering and in the hotel industry. The majority of the new places are assigned to the tourist seasons, which is of great importance, especially in times like the high season.
The increase in the seasonal contingent is a direct answer to the existing bottlenecks in the personnel area, which have been concerned with both industries, tourism and agriculture for years. Current figures show that the relevant quotas already include over 6,500 seasonal jobs across Austria. Especially in the tourism sector, the demand for seasonal workers is becoming more and more urgent. The measures that are associated with the new regulation aim to support the companies in covering their top seasonal performance and further secure the competitiveness of the Austrian tourism, such as bmaw.gv.at reported.
