McDonald's: 10,000 employees look forward to wage increase and vacation!

McDonald’s employees in Austria can look forward to a positive development: Around 10,000 employees are now being rewarded with a wage increase of 3.9 % and other advantages. This results from an agreement in the collective agreement negotiations between employer and employee representatives. In addition to the wage adjustments, the employees benefit from additional leisure conditions: they receive a leisure day and a sixth vacation week after 15 years of service. About 9,600 employees are affected by these changes that come into force with an independent collective agreement from May 2024.

The apprentices can also look forward to an increase in salary: their income increases by an average of 4.1 %. The innovations also include an adapted regulation for the 6th working day. In the future, employees will be able to work with a 6-day week and 13 weeks with a 4-day week within 26 weeks. In addition, employees who do night shifts receive a surcharge of 30 % to their hourly wages.

staggering of vacation days

The additional vacation days are staggered after years of service. After 6 years of service there is a vacation day, after 9 years two, after 12 years three and after 15 years five additional days. Pre-service times can also be taken into account, which means that apprenticeship years and up to three years can be counted from other system catering companies or McDonald’s locations. This is a significant advantage for many employees who have already gained previous experience in the industry.

From May 2024, McDonald’s will have an independent collective agreement (KV), which is a change, since there was previously an additional KV that was attached to the collective agreement of the hotel and catering industry. This step is also welcomed by the gastronomy and hotel industry, which is working towards standardizing your collective contracts. A new collective agreement that applies to the catering and hotel industry comes into force on November 1, 2024 and will bring a modernized fee structure.

changes in the collective agreement

The new collective agreement brings with it some major changes. For example, a new salary system will be introduced from May 1, 2025, in which specialists with a positive apprenticeship examination or the completion of a vocational school are classified directly into the wage and salary group 3. The previously existing intermediate level is eliminated. Expert -related pre -service times are also fully credited to the same employer, while proof of pre -service times for other employers are required for up to three years.

The new regulations aim to adapt working hours and breaks to the needs of the industry. For example, changing times are now considered working hours, and two free weekends or two coherent days off must be guaranteed at least 12 times a year. These measures come at the right time to improve working conditions in the catering and hotel industry.

Company is recommended to check the new provisions in detail and to make necessary adjustments in good time in order to avoid possible effects on the personnel structure and salary statements. As [Leitnerlaw] (https://www.leitnerlaw.eu/news/neuer-kollivtrag-in-der-Gastronomie/), this change will be a challenge for everyone involved, but also offers the chance of a fairer remuneration and better working conditions.
