Now help: 600,000 soups for people in need in Austria!
Wien, Österreich - The winter donation campaign "Hot soup against social cold" has caused great commitment in Austria. Since 2007, restaurateurs have been dedicated to a soup on their menu of the social initiative and donate a euro on the Tafel Austria on their dose of the social initiative. According to OTS , over 150 restaurants have donated around 60,000 euros last season. This donation enables the provision of around 600,000 soups for people affected by poverty, which means an increase of over 20 % compared to the previous year.
Tafel Austria is the largest and oldest table organization in the country and has been providing people in need with rescued foods since 1999. In 2024, the organization distributed 1,578 tons of food to 75,000 people in around 160 social institutions. Alexandra Gruber, Managing Director of Tafel Austria, emphasizes the increasing need for food aid due to the inflation.
commitment to the gastronomy
The "Soup with Sinn" campaign meets a broad response in the catering trade, which ranges from the hood restaurant to the small Beisl. In the last soup season (November 2023 to February 2024) a total of 42,000 "soups" were sold, as reported on Tafel Austria . The prominent supporter of the campaign, actress Konstanze Breitbner, complains about the need for this campaign in a wealthy country, while at the same time thanks the catering instinct for her commitment.
Long-standing supporters of the initiative such as the Café-Restaurant Hummel (since 2008) and the Vestibül restaurant in the Burgtheater (since 2010) have taken on their role, while new participants such as the Gasthof Blasl in Oberösterreich and the Hotel-Restaurant Friesacherhof in Carinthia have also participated. Large companies such as Hutchison Drei Austria GmbH and OMV AG also participate in the widespread support for people in need.
