Integration success: Ukrainian children bloom in Tyrol!
Innsbruck, Österreich - On February 24, 2022, the Russian attack on Ukraine began, which triggered a massive wave of flight. Already three weeks later, almost 100 Ukrainian children from evacuated children's homes found a new home in the SOS Kinderdorf Tirol. To date, over 200 children have been supported in Tyrol, whereby the focus is on their integration. In Tyrol, 2,555 women and 1,406 men from Ukraine are currently registered, 1,175 of whom are dependent on basic care. A gratifying development is also evident in the labor market: most of the employees registered are in the catering and trade, while only 150 are registered as unemployed. This reports tirol.orf.at .
summer camp for Ukrainian children
To enable the young displaced people to take a break from the horror of the war, a summer camp for Ukrainian children and adolescents was launched. Governor Anton Mattle, the Ukrainian ambassador Vasyl Khymynets and other representatives recently visited the camp at Hungerburg in Innsbruck. Here, more than 60 children between eight and sixteen years experience carefree weeks with various outdoor activities, including hikes and swimming. The summer camp offers the participants the opportunity to discover the landscape diversity of Tyrol and to leave the worries of the war for a time. This initiative was initiated by the state of Tyrol and Task Force Ukraine and is also seen as a model for similar projects in other Austrian federal states, such as tirol.gv.at reported.
The positive balance of integration efforts can also be seen in the school landscape: Around 700 school -age children from Ukraine have settled in well in Tyrolean schools, with 454 children in secondary schools and 246 in elementary schools. Despite the tragic circumstances, many refugees have started a new life in Tyrol, which is recognized by political representatives as great progress. The state of Tyrol continues to pursue the goal of offering the refugee families security and perspectives.
