Spring awakening: Vienna's Shanigentries invite you to enjoy outdoors!

Café Diglas im Schottenstift, 1010 Wien, Österreich - Spring has reached Vienna, and with it the longed -for opening of the Shanigente! The temperatures rise and the Viennese flock out to enjoy the first rays of sun. Walter Ruck, President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, explains: "As soon as the sun is shining, the Shanigents in Vienna's streets, alleys and pedestrian zones are well filled." Mayor Michael Ludwig adds that the opening of the guest gardens is not only a sign of conviviality, but also a commitment to the strength of Viennese gastronomy and its importance for the attitude to life in this city.

The gates for the outdoor season were explicitly opened on this special day in the Diglas Café in the Schottenstift. The number of Shaniga Highter, which has been operated all year round, has increased since last winter. There are around 3,500 such guest gardens in Vienna, of which around two thirds were also open in winter. This development shows that the Shanigente is also attractive in the cold season for both operators and for guests. Ruck states: “On the one hand, the income from the Shaniga Highter not only secures the sales of the operators, but also jobs,“ which is particularly important in economically challenging times. Viennese gastronomy has a key role that contributes not only to the local economy, but also to the international reputation of Vienna as a "foodie destination".
