Fasching 2025: Austria spends 35 million euros - celebrating like never before!
In 2025, the Austrians show a high enthusiasm for the carnival festival, as current surveys by the Handelsverband (HV) prove. The expenses for costumes, make -up, snacks and drinks increase to a considerable 35 million euros. The Austrians spend an average of 69 euros per celebrating person - an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year. People in Lower Austria and Burgenland are particularly generous, where 79 euros are invested per capita, while Vienna is in second place with 75 euros, as the 5min.at reported.
The preferences for carnival celebrations vary greatly depending on the region. In Upper Austria, every second plans to take part in a festival, while only about every third in Vienna wants to attend a celebration. In the times of carnival, retail, gastronomy and tourism are flourishing. "Carnival and ball season are not only cultural highlights, but also significant economic factors," explains Rainer Will, spokesman for the trade association. For the ball season, each participant even spends 245 euros on average, adds Sn.at .
The preference for festivities becomes clear in 2025 because four out of ten Austrians state that they want to attend such a festival. Despite the regional differences in the expenditure and the party mood, the carnival period shows what economic importance it has and how it revives social life in Austria.
