Ferdinand Feldhofer: GAK relies on experienced trainers in times of crisis!
Graz, Österreich - The Grazer AK has signed a new head coach with Ferdinand Feldhofer. This was done just three days after Rene Poms's leave of absence, with which the club could not achieve the desired success. Feldhofer, who played as a central defender for the GAK from 1998 to 2001 and from 2008 to 2013, returns to a former rival. His mission: bring stability and success in a crisis situation.
The 39-year-old coach took over the scepter on Monday and is supported by Matthias Urlesberger, the former U16 coach of the GAK. Urlesberger has valuable experience because he was previously assistant coach at Lafnitz, WAC and Rapid. Sports director Dieter Elsneg described Feldhofer as a "personality with a great wealth of experience", which is supposed to help the team in this difficult phase. He emphasizes that the forces in the club have to be bundled in order to master the existing challenges.
previous coaching station
Feldhofer worked as a coach at Cercle Bruges until mid -March, where he was released after only 17 competitive games. The reason for his release was that he could not get the club out of the danger zone. His return to Graz is therefore not only a return to football, but also a fresh start in a critical situation for the GAK.
His positive attitude to take over the association is remarkable. Feldhofer is convinced that the GAK can successfully overcome the upcoming challenges, but requires passionate commitment from the team. It remains to be seen whether it can actually produce the stability that the association needs.
psychological background of trainer changes
Change of coaches are not unusual in football and are often said to create a psychological effect. According to an analysis of over 10,000 Bundesliga games, short-term successes after a change of coach are shown, but there are often setbacks. The reason for this can be discrepancies within the team or a lack of development between the trainer and the team. These factors should play a role in the decision to dislike a trainer, as well as the need for continuity in the coaching team, which is considered a decisive success factor.
The team around Feldhofer remains largely unchanged, which indicates that the new management of proven structures is important. The coaches who stay in the club include goalkeeper coach Thomas Queder, athletic coach Stefan Arvay, individual coach Ralph Spirk and video analyst Jacob Swersina.
The coming weeks will show whether Ferdinand Feldhofer is able to lead the GAK out of the crisis and to regain the trust of the association. Everyone involved hopes for a positive turn in the sporting situation.
