Passau professor leads BwL ranking of the youngest-success for the university!

Passau, Deutschland - In an outstanding recognition of his scientific achievements, Prof. Dr. Marc Goerigk from the University of Passau as the most researched business economist under the age of 40 in German -speaking countries. This prestigious ranking, published by the Wirtschaftswoche , refers to more than 3000 professors and reward the number of their publications. Goerigk leads the list and shows the significant role he plays in modern business administration.

Prof. Dr. Goerigk, who is 39 years old and teaches at the Faculty of Economics, has not only published 166 publications since 2010, but also wrote a book about robust combinatorial optimization that is particularly important to him. These are mathematical models that are applicable to diverse applications such as traffic optimization or warehousing in companies. "I find the abstract much more beautiful than the concrete," said Goerigk, which his preference for the discovery of general structures behind mathematical problems, as recently also in Digital research magazine was emphasized.

research focus: optimization under uncertainty

A central topic of his research is decision -making situations with uncertainties that challenge the classic approaches to corporate planning. "In practice, the parameters are often not fully known," says Goerigk, "that's why I research how optimal decisions can also be made in unpredictable situations." His mathematical training and research experiences at institutions such as the TU Kaiserslautern and the Lancaster University Management School have well prepared for these challenges.

The University of Passau not only benefits from Goerigk's individual success, but has also achieved a top placement in the ranking of the "Wirtschaftswoche" and is now one of the 25 most researched universities in the field of business administration in the entire German-speaking area. "This shows that Passau offers excellent conditions for researchers," Dean notes Prof. Dr. Stefan Bauerschuster delighted. Goerigk himself expresses his enthusiasm for Passau, where he has been teaching since 2023. "It's a fantastic city with short paths on campus," he said.
