Artificial intelligence: When emotions influence thinking!

Scientists from the Psychiatric University Clinic Zurich found in a groundbreaking study that artificial intelligence (AI) and people react to negative emotions. The psychiatrists led by Tobias Spiller suspended chatgpt emotionally stressful stories, such as reports on car accidents and military conflicts. These stories led to a dramatic increase in the fear values of the AI, which were more than twice as high as with a harmless operating instructions for a vacuum cleaner. In a statement on the study, the University of Zurich said that the AI could be calmed down by the use of mindfulness exercises that are also used in psychotherapy. The intervention showed success, but did not fully bring the fear values back to the starting level, said Spiller.

The influence of emotional intelligence on decisions

Research on emotional intelligence shows a direct connection between the ability to recognize your own emotions, and decision -making. Researchers at Yale University found that people who understand their emotions better are less influenced by fears that are irrelevant to the respective decision. In a study, participants had to prepare a short speech, which led to increased fear. The results showed that people with higher emotional intelligence had a lower risk of risk, while fear was distracted by other impairments, such as speech. This realization confirms that understanding of one's own emotions is crucial for rational decisions and helps to avoid emotional distortions. In view of these findings, the question arises as to how both humans and KIs can be better controlled in emotionally stressful situations. In the Heidelberg study, such insights can also be important for advanced interactions between humans and AI.
