Gender equality in medicine: Prof. Stracke speaks in Greifswald

In a remarkable initiative, which is intended to promote the consideration of gender prospects in medical research, a lecture by Prof. Dr. Sylvia Stracke take place at the University Medical Center in Greifswald. Under the title "Including Excellence in Medicine: Gender aspects in medical research", the lecture focuses on the often neglected medical differences between the sexes. It is emphasized that many diseases, such as heart attacks and diabetes, are recognized late in women, while conditions such as depression are often diagnosed in men. These critical points are also at the center of the "Inke" composite project, which was launched by the University and University Medical Center in Greifswald to enable fairer health care, such as Uni-greifswald.de

At the same time, the Westphalian Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU) started an important campaign on the occasion of the international day against violence on women on November 25th. This initiative was supported by the WWU equality office, which collected photos of expressions of solidarity in order to create awareness of sexualized violence, harassment and stalking. The "We break the silence" campaign is supported by Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey and aims to help victims of violence and to draw attention to the help phone for violence against women. Support and information can be found on a special website of the WWU, such as Medizin.uni-muenster.de

These two actions, both in Greifswald and Münster, shed light on the urgent need to improve both medical research and social justice. They show how important it is to recognize and treat gender differences in order to achieve comprehensive and inclusive health care for everyone.
